Dreamcatcher Urban Artis Kids

Do you sometimes dream stupid dreams at night? Our self-made dream catcher is supposed to improve sleep. It is assumed that the good dreams go through the net, the bad ones get stuck in the net and would later be neutralized by the morning sun.

What kind of material you need:

  • white paper plate
  • Acrylic, finger or water colours
  • Brush
  • Water vessel
  • adhesive tape
  • slightly thicker cord (e.B. packing cord)
  • Wooden or plastic beads
  • Feather
  • Scissors

Dreamcatcher

Guide

  • Cut out the inner part of the paper plate (alternatively you can use a cutter knife, but only for older children).
  • Glue the cord (approx. 80-100 cm) in the star pattern (see picture) on to the back of the paper plate. Leave a piece of string for the suspension at the beginning.
  • Paint the paper plate and let it dry.
  • Tie two feathers together on a short cord (approx. 10-15 cm).
  • After that, you can either tie thread around the feathers and make another knot or straighten a thicker wooden bead.
  • Make a knot at the end of the threaded beads.
  • Make a total of three cords with feathers and pearls.
  • Finally, you can thread pearls at the top of the suspension.
  • Your dream catcher is ready! Sweet dreams…

Here are some dream catchers from our Kids Club! Send us your dream catcher pictures under info@urbanartkids.com.

Online Workshop journey into the history of art (in spanish)

In the online workshop Journey into Art History, bilingual children playfully discover art history together with our artist Julia Iglesias.

Journey into the history of art

WHEN: 20th + 27th of March & 11th+18th of April 2021 each from 11:00 - 12:00 hours
WHERE: ONLINE

What do we do in the workshop?

The workshop seeks to spark interest in art history translated as a children’s story. The history of art is the history of the development of art through time. Children learn about the lives and works of the great masters of art as they explore various painting and sculpting techniques and learn color theory. With the variety of recyclable elements that nature and manufacturing offer us every day and whatever the imagination invents and wants.

Each child should be encouraged to explore creatively and discover for themselves the possibilities offered by the various materials. It is a way to get everyone to participate and get to know each other through art and play, because by exploring you can discover what you like to do in life.

What do we want to convey with the workshop?

communication, dialogue, research and artistic creation.
-Use resources of our environment by using recycled materials and reducing our consumption and ecological footprint.
-Know the history of art, biographies of artists and styles.
-spirit and promote cooperative work.

PODCAST No.24 Artist in Residence Program I Helena Hernandez at Urban Art Kids

Artist in residence

Welcome back to the Urban Art Kids podcast 2021 in English. In this episode, we talk to Mexican artist Helena Hernandez about her participation in the Artist in Residence program at Urban Art Kids. Helena has been part of the Urban Art Kids teaching team for more than a year and regularly teaches courses with us.

In December 2020, she stayed in the gallery to work on a beautiful embroidery project that has to do with her childhood. She is the first artist to participate in this AiR program.

In this episode, we talk about how she felt like a child again and had more contact with her family because of the pandemic situation. How all her memories turned into pieces of embroidery, like a girl wearing a fish hat.
Helena also explains why she felt like a tourist in Charlottenburg, as she usually works and lives in Neukölln. The artist’s love and hatred relationship with Neukölln and her hometown of Mexico City. Helena transforms the roughness of the Neukölln neighborhood, where she lives, into her work.

Helena has started a daily embroidery project, which she wants to continue all year round. See Instagram of Helena.

We talked to her about how the pandemic situation affected her life.
She balanced things that kept her busy and information with other things that made her happy. For example, she started baking and growing plants.

Have fun to listen to! And of course as always, if you like it please rate us, write comments and share our podcast!
